Description:
The Sun Center of Excellence for Visual Genomics (COE) (www.visualgenomics.ca) at the University of Calgary is looking for a highly motivated Research Programmer or a Postdoctoral Fellow. The successful candidate will join our group and work on a variety of projects that include the following components:
* Data integration of a large number of data sources and a variety of data types (e.g. 3D anatomical images, genetic experiment data, etc.).
* Data visualization and human-computer interaction in 2D/3D/4D environments.
* High performance data analysis.
* Integration and testing of software.
* Preparation of written summaries and scientific papers.
Eligibility:
The ideal candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong experience in object oriented software development using the Java language. Experience in computer graphics, image processing, human-computer interaction in virtual environments, and multi-thread programming are important. Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment and leadership qualities are essential.
This position is a unique training opportunity that includes the development and improvement of state-of-the-art 4D visualization software for use in the CAVE (CAVE Automated Virtual Environment) and on desktops.
A minimum of 3 years in software development and a degree in Computer Science or related field is recommended (Master's preferred) as a Research Programmer. For the Postdoctoral Fellow, a doctorate in Computer Science or related discipline, as well as a strong research record is required.
